Boy Becoming… first day out

Our first Boy Becoming… trip was one that set the tone for what is going to be a truly exciting program for facilitators and “boys” alike. It’s heritage month and what better way to celebrate than by taking our boys to the Mothong Heritage site in Pretoria. The boys got to take part in the launch of the Gauteng division of the Institute of Healing Memories at the .

The day was truly resplendent with guests dressed in wonderful traditional and cultural attire, which our boys absolutely loved. The day was an inter-generational affair with the women form the shelter in Alexandra accompanying us. Initially we were nervous about how the two groups would mix, but we were just thrilled with the resultant friendships. In fact once the boys understood who the women were and why they lived in a shelter, they requested we do more with them in the future. They feel there is a lot they can learn from the ladies. Plus they want to assist in efforts to create happy experiences in these women`s lives.

And this of course is in keeping with the objectives behind Boy Becoming… we want to help create a generation of empathetic, discerning and good men.

This was our first outing and we are thrilled with the outcome. Certainly there are only good things ahead for us all!
