We are just so grateful to have experienced such a wonderful year, despite the difficulties that the pandemic brought with it. We made new friends, forged new connections and launched new programmes all which made 2021 a year of incredible growth.
Here are a few of our high lights!
We finally run a permanent “soup” kitchen in Marlboro Gardens feeding nearly 200 beneficiaries daily. This is because of the amazing and endless kindness of the Athol CAN community. They have ensured that every single week we have a fresh supply of vegetables, meat and groceries.
As always, The Angel Network SA made sure we were able to give our waste-pickers, clothes, blankets, toiletries and gas to run our kitchen stoves. It was also through the Angel Network that we were introduced to Yebo Fresh. They gave us an outstanding 350 food parcels to give to our very in need beneficiaries. We hope to find a sponsor that can help us make this an ongoing project in the new year.
We started a weekly reading group for our small children. A number of amazing volunteers came and spent the afternoon reading to our kids and joined them for cookies and juice.
A group of our older kids did a week long course with the Peace Education Program and this was quite wonderful.
Possibly one of our biggest successes has been our collaboration with Wits Psychology Masters Students, in a programme titled Zisize. Under the programme, wellness and harm reduction sessions were held with the participation of addicted Nyoape users. Support sessions were held in conjunction for their parents and affected family members
We are so excited and hopeful for the coming year, that 2022 can also be a year of incredible growth . We would like to thank everyone who helped make this year the success it was!!!
